Understanding The Jester

The archetype is a motivation and a role in the customer’s life, not a collection of decorative traits.

The Jester sells joy. Life is too short for boring brands, and your customers know it. Humour lowers thresholds and builds friendship, as long as it lands.

“This made my day a little better.”
Customer feeling

Suits food and drink, events and young audiences, anyone who wins by being liked.

Different ways the archetype can appear

The Comedian

Reveals truth through a generous joke.

The Playmate

Invites the audience into the activity.

The Trickster

Turns expectation around.

The shadow side

A strong archetype includes its own warning. The same energy that creates distinction can become a liability when exaggerated.

Forced humour, distraction, insensitivity and jokes that make the customer the loser.

Verbal identity

Tone

Playful, precise, generous and spontaneous.

“Seriously good. Fortunately not that serious.”

Do this

  • Builds humour on insight
  • Surprises in small doses
  • Lets the customer share the joke

Avoid this

  • Irrelevant memes
  • Punching down
  • Humour in serious customer situations

Visual identity

Colourful, energetic and social.
